Orion: The Last Day of 2005

This is an astrophotograph of Orion, taken with a Canon EOS 20D and a 50mm f/1.4 lens, using a tripod and slowest possible exposure before star-streaking happens due to the Earth's rotation. You can even see the Orion Nebula. The 50mm on a Canon EOS 20D has an effective focal length of 80mm, which is the perfect size for capturing just the constellation Orion while filling the frame. This frame was done using the 20D's B&W mode with green filtering to reduce noise, with post-processing done with the GNU Image Manipulation Program, to enhance contrast and return the black level of the night sky.
